Who Will I Be?

Who am I
Without my story
Of victim and lover
And fighter and–ha!–poet!?

Who will I be
When I set down
My gauntlet and sword
Open wide my arms

And give in to
That Which awaits
One whiff of my will
Giving in to It?

What will I do
Without passion
Providing false hope
Of vitality?

Maybe I won’t know
Until I quietly agree
To simply BE

  1. The intensity of survival mode can feel like our identity. The power that comes from having to be brave in the face of feeling victimized is so addictive. When we let go of the story and realize we’re actually not fighting this grand battle, life can feel a little… anticlimactic.
